What! Your favorite team didn’t get into the Super Bowl? You can still enjoy an exciting game by turning in to The Animal Planet for Puppy Bowl XIII.
Over 49 puppies are divided into Team Ruff and Team Fluff who will compete in a 19’ x 10’ stadium, dragging football-shaped toys into the end zone. Just like in other football games there are penalties. But in this game they’re for napping, howling, illegal bathing in water bowls, and relieving him or herself on the field. No game is complete without entertainment and cheerleaders. So there’s a half-time kitty show and chickens leading the cheers on the sidelines.
The players come from different shelters. Usually, by the time the show airs, all have found a FUR-ever home.
According to People magazine, this year’s line-up includes:
He’s a special-needs pup who may be deaf but he’s attentive. He knows how to read hand signals, especially ones intended for the other team.
She’s a New Yorker who would really rather cheerlead with the chickens
if they weren’t so pecky.
Basher is a sato – a street dog from a beach in Puerto Rico.
He speaks 3 languages fluently – English, Spanish, and Woof.
She’s a nut who starts off shy but, when you least expect it, she intercepts the ball.
Soooo polite, Harmon sometimes calls a time-out to make friends with the fans.
Slipper is a tiny Pomeranian-Havanese mix and proof that you don’t have to be a hunk to score in this game.
This is a pit-beagle mix who can’t make up his mind if he’s playing offense or defense.
Stretch is another pit bull mix from St. Louis. He knows how to take orders from the
.quarterback and is a tough competitor.
The action is on February 5, on The Animal Planet. Tailgate starts at 2:30 and the game is at 3. Plus, cast your vote for the MVP – The Most Valuable Pup.
