The other evening, I put on my sparkly sequins, grabbed Penelope and went to St. Hubert’s Canine Cotillion.
The cotillion is held every year at the Governor Morris Hotel in Morristown, New Jersey. All proceeds go to benefit the shelter animals at St. Hubert’s.
Guests mingled under crystal chandeliers, nibbled on noshes, and placed silent bids on an array of themed gift baskets. Not only were they human dressed in formal finery, their dogs were too.
Some wore fancy dresses.
And they all, pretty much, wore tails
Penelope wore a brand new pearl and diamond collar.
Actually, make that a fake cubic zirconium collar.
(She didn’t want some bulldog ripping it off.)
After cocktails, we entered the dining room for a delicious dinner.
The dogs dined on delectable edibles too.
We learned about how the hard-working staff and volunteers at St. Hubert’s rescue and rehabilitate shelter dogs and place them into forever homes. And some of them attended the cotillion with their adoptive families.
Thousands of dollars were raised. Everyone agreed that it was a worthwhile and enjoyable evening.
And Penelope thought it was a howl.
